WILD
FOOD TASTER DAYS | back
Price £75 per person 10am - 4 pm. This includes a 3 course wild lunch. 3 - 4 hour forage on West Cornwall's beaches, cliff tops, woodlands and hedgerows gathering seaweeds, herbs, flowers, salads and vegetables followed by a 3 course wild food lunch cooked communally with Caroline and eaten back in Fat Hen's Farmhouse kitchen. Caroline will show you the edible wild herbs, flowers, fungi, seeds, roots, seaweeds, berries, salads and vegetables in season. Each walk takes in 2 or more of the following habitats: hedgerows, waysides, fields, seashores, clifftops, streams and woodland. You will learn about the culinary and medicinal uses for these plants and historical facts about how they came to be where they are in our semi-wild landscape. You will discover how to incorporate these plants into your diet in a creative and delicious way and will be inspired to try some of the Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Far Eastern and traditional British recipes that Caroline will recount to you during the walk. |

Caroline
will teach you how to forage sustainably, legally and with an awareness
of the dangers of picking poisonous or contaminated plants.
These walks are ideal for anyone with an interest in the countryside, food and nature. They are a great way of re-connecting with the source of our food and will leave you feeling invigorated and wanting to learn more. You will learn in more depth than just on a walk as you will be picking the plants yourself, cooking with them and eating them. There's no better way to learn than to pick and eat it yourself. We supply baskets and scissors for the day. You will get an opportunity to cook some of the foraged wild foods as a group in Fat Hen's kitchen and will get to try various preserved and dried wild foods and beverages from Fat Hen's store cupboard. This taster day will teach you how to use those wild foods found in season at that time of year. You will get ideas for at least 10 different recipes and will get to forage at least 15 different wild edible plants. "Davey is an ecologist by training and her practices are impeccable: only harvest enough for yourself from abundant or pest species (the delicious chive like three cornered leek is one, as is the humble nettle); use scissors to protect the roots; and always seek permission to forage on private property." - Ismay Atkins, Time Out |
