WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This course is for cyclists who are inquisitive about wild food and is designed for adults or children over the age of 10 who can happily cover 20+ miles over the day. This day is not a speed cycling day and is about enjoying both on road & off road cycling to different foraging spots in West Cornwall. It is notoriously hilly in West Cornwall so a good level of fitness is necessary.
Caroline will teach you how to forage safely and legally. She will cover some plant identification tips, indicate poisonous lookalikes as they arise and will give you reams of recipe ideas. Caroline will share some chefs’ tips for incorporating these ingredients into your cooking. The foraging trip will include some wildlife commentary as well as historical and medicinal anecdotes about the plants and landscapes that we see.
This course is only available as a private group booking for a minimum of 6 people, maximum 12.

This course involves a 3 hour cycling & foraging trip covering 20+ miles around Penwith to various wild landscapes: seashore, hedgerow, woodland & farmland to forage for seasonal wild edible herbs, vegetables, seaweeds, fungi, roots, seeds & berries.
The day includes a 3 course wild lunch eaten out on the beach (or back at Fat Hen depending on the weather)

- Hogweed shoots and Alexanders with poached egg & hollandaise

- Nettle & ricotta tortellini, brown butter & hazelnuts

- Seashore risotto with shellfish, rock samphire & wild fennel
- Turkish borek (filo pastries) with wild greens

- Soda bread with wild herbs & seaweeds

- Elderflower fritters

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?
Your own bike is essential (preferably a hybrid bike that can cope with some rough tracks), a bottle of water, waterproof clothing, footwear suitable for cycling & foraging, pen & notebook, camera, bag or basket to take home foraged ingredients.

Yes, there are always vegetarian options and we also cater for food intolerances like gluten and dairy free diets. Please let us know in advance.
