FORAGE & FEAST AT THE GURNARD’S HEAD & THE OLD COASTGUARD 2019

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

Fat Hen and Eat Drink Sleep Ltd. have been working together since 2007 offering forage and feast days at their north coast pub/restaurant, The Gurnards Head. In 2019 for the first time we are also offering the same event at their sister restaurant/hotel; The Old Coastguard, in Mousehole. The foraging walk from the Gurnards Head takes you on some of the most dramatic and breathtaking sections of the Cornish coast path. The walk is 2 1/2 hours on some pretty uneven terrain. A good level of fitness is required for this walk. Although we stop and talk frequently there are some steep sections to navigate. So make sure you wear good outdoor footwear and don’t forget your waterproofs! The walk from the Old Coastguard takes you on some of the softer terrain of the south coast. The walk is also between 2 and 2 1/2 hours and we cover some seashore, hedgerow and farmland landscapes. There is also some uphill walking out of Mousehole across the fields so good footwear is still necessary. These forage and feast days are for anyone wanting to combine a great appetite building guided foraging walk with an indulgent wild food lunch of 4 courses eaten afterwards at The Gurnards Head or The Old Coastguard. We will get to see a range of coastal, grassland and hedgerow wild foods on the walks whilst enjoying the breathtaking scenery.

COURSE OUTLINE:

The day starts with coffee and introductions from Caroline, followed by a 2.5 hour foraging walk. The chef will have prepared a seasonal wild food lunch of 4 courses using ingredients picked and supplied by Caroline prior to the day.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COURSE?

Coffee/tea & biscuits on arrival, Guided foraging tuition, a 4 course wild lunch eaten communally by the group with Caroline. Any wines or beers from the restaurant’s bar are additional to the cost of this day.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?

A bottle of water, waterproof clothing, walking shoes/boots or wellies, pen & notebook, camera.

IS THE COURSE SUITABLE FOR VEGETARIANS?

Yes, there are always vegetarian options. We also cater for food intolerances such as dairy or gluten free diets. Please let us know in advance.
